2026 Guests of Honour

Scott Lynch and Elizabeth Bear, married Gamers and Award-winning Authors!

Scott Lynch is a year younger than Star Wars and was born in Minnesota. He still has the beloved copies of Cyberpunk 2020 and Call of Cthulhu he bought when he was 15. In high school, he and his friends wasted as much time as possible playing Star Wars, Vampire, Earthdawn, Axis & Allies, Diplomacy, and assorted homebrew LARPs. After a few lean years spent freelancing and
self-publishing, Scott sold his first novel, The Lies of Locke Lamora, in 2004. Lies and its sequels are international bestsellers and have been translated into more than twenty-five languages. Scott now lives in Massachusetts with his wife, SF/F writer Elizabeth Bear, a variety of cats and horses, and an uncountable number of board games. Scott will be bringing two cooperative board games of his own design to Rising Phoenix 2026: We Are Rich in Opportunity and Happy Hives.

Elizabeth Bear is a year older than The Godfather and was born in New England. A true child of the late Cold War, she founded a high school roleplaying club that still exists, heeded the Call of Cthulhu, walked the Pattern in Amber, and spent a lot of time exploding her friends in Flying Buffalo’s
original Nuclear War. Bear’s first novel, Hammered, was published in 2004 and has been followed by approximately three dozen more, up to and including Angel Maker, a sequel to 2015’s Karen Memory. Bear has won the Hugo, Sturgeon, Locus, and Astounding awards, and was a 2025 Dragon
Award nominee. She has published more than one hundred pieces of short fiction and has served as a consulting futurist for several government and academic initiatives. Elizabeth now lives in Massachusetts with her husband, SF/F writer Scott Lynch, in an eccentric old house full of books and games and cats.

At Rising Phoenix, Scott and Elizabeth will be wearing many cavalier hats, whether they are running a game, signing books, sitting on a panel, or running a seminar. They both will sit down with fans in separate episodes of the popular Podcast The Gamemaster’s Bookclub and discuss their books as gaming ideas. Keep an eye out for announcements of their events in TTE!

Be sure to sign up for a game, a panel, or stop and say hi, they are more than willing to sign their work for you!
